Book Blogger Hop (27) and Follow Friday (15)

This week's question is...

When did you realize that reading is your passion and a truly important part of your life?

There never really was a moment when I realized that I love to read. For as long as I can remember, every Saturday my mom would take me to the library and I would get a stack of books. When I was very young, it started as seven picture books, one for each night, and slowly evolved into a pile of regular books. Now I get my books by ordering them online through the library, but the point remains that reading has always been a part of my life, thanks to my parents.

This week's Follow Friday question is...

What is your favorite fairy tale or story that revolves around the fae?

I can't really pick just one fairy tale I love, but the entire volume of Grimms' Fairy Tales (as in, the real ones, not the happy Disney-fied version) completely scared the crap out of me as a little kid, and so I adored it. Each one was terrifying, violent, and brutal to my young self and served as such a contrast to the generally upbeat books that stocked my shelves that I couldn't help but read them over and over again.

If you're stopping by, please leave a comment so I can return the favor!

Thanks for stopping by. I want to read the Grimms' fairy tales. I've loved watching movies and see the real stories. I think it would be fun to experience the written versions too.

Did you know that the Grimms brothers were linguists and they gathered these stories as a way to study the language in all the nearby towns and areas? I learned that in my linguistics class last semester and thought it was really cool.

Yep, going to the library with my mom is also something I remember doing. :) Stoping by from the hop. :)

Hi Izzy! Old follower! I'm glad you liked the fairy tale The Old Woman and the Wood. It really is incredibly unusual to find that type of heroine in old literature. Exactly the reason I choose it :)

Grimms scared the living bejesus out of me growing up. Still love them though :)

I love the original Grimms, too. Although not quite the same, when I first read Giulietta e Romeo by Luigi da Porto (the original Romeo and Juiliet) I was taken aback by how different it is from Shakespeare's version. Lots of old Italian and French stories fabulous for this reason.

My mom used to take me to the library all the time (and I always used the school library too). My grandma came to stay with us one week in the summer when my mom was out of town and I was out of reading material. I begged her to take me to the library. I had been there many times and thought I could tell her how to get there. I was wrong. We ended up thirty minutes in the wrong direction!

I love the real versions of the tales. My daughter seems to like twisted scary stories so I bet she will also.

Battle of the Books is when schools within a district compete in a quiz show type competition against each other on a whole lot of books. My specialty was 'How to Eat Fried Worms' trivia. :p

Thanks for hopping by my blog last week, btw!
