Review: THE NIGHT CIRCUS is the sort of book where I don't feel equipped to write a synopsis for because there's no way I can do it justice. I don't even feel like I can write a review that does this book justice, but since the publicist was kind enough to send a review copy my way, I will, of course, give it my best shot. If you really wish to know what this book is about, I suggest the Goodreads synopsis as it does a much better job at summing up this wonderful book than I could.

"Wonderful" does not really cover this book. I don't think any adjectives can cover it, but if I had to try, I would say that this is intricate and mesmerizing and beautiful and dark and lovely and fantastic and enchanting and sad and wonderful all at once. It's the kind of book you'd want to stay up late into the night and read, but even if you read it in the daylight, it's okay because Erin Morgenstern writes the sort of beautiful prose that transports you to wherever you need to go.

I must note that this isn't the right book for you if you love fast-paced plots that take a clear path with a definitive beginning, middle, and end. THE NIGHT CIRCUS is a meandering story but in a way that will keep you glued to the pages. It's about magic, and circuses, and death, and life, but really, more than anything, this is a love story, plain and simple. And at the same time, this novel is so complicated in the best of ways.

This is the type of book where I want to go and scream at people from the rooftops to read it, so consider this review my rooftop screams. Just twenty pages into this book, I knew it would become my favorite ever, and it has. Erin Morgenstern wove the loveliest, most enchanting of tales, and I strongly, strongly encourage you to pick up a copy of THE NIGHT CIRCUS so you can become as captivated.

I received a free copy of this book for review. This in no way affected my review.
