Dealing with Embarrassing Book Covers

I am not ashamed to read YA, but I do admit that I am ashamed to read YA books that have covers featuring, for example, a girl and a guy with their lips glued together, or covers that look like they are meant to appeal to four-year-olds.

In general, when I'm reading a book with an embarrassing book cover like that, I just don't take it out in public. I'll read it at home, and when I want to bring a book with me somewhere, I just grab another one.

However, some people I know aren't afraid to walk around with their books, no matter how odd or embarrassing the covers are. I admire the bravery but unfortunately, I lack the courage to do so.

So what do you do with embarrassing book covers?

I'm the same way! I hide them. Sometimes I flip the book over (so that the back/synopsis is up) then realize that the back is worse than the front...like it's proclaiming how "HOT! ROMANTIC!" the book is and I'm like "oh, god...Everyone totally thinks I'm reading porn!"
I envy the people who have no shame with their book covers! :D

We often take off the dust jacket, which helps a lot. With a paperback, we might just keep the cover down if it embarrasses us. And Kristan has a Kindle, so it's not really an issue when she's reading ebooks.

Btw, this discussion is not *completely* the same, but it's definitely related and worth reading: http://thathapachick.blogspot.com/2011/12/when-book-covers-get-their-sexy-on.html

I don't really mind covers, but if it is an embarrassing one I will either lay it on my lap to read so you can't see the cover or arrange my hands to cover most of it. But really they don't tend to bother me. I don't read many romances so it's not a massive issue really.

Anna and the French Kiss was the worst! The title alone was horrifying.

If a book has an embarassing cover, I read it on my e-reader! But if it's a book I really love and I'm not afraid to admit it, I will carry it proudly and read it where ever.

That's why I like my ereader. For the most part I just deal with the embarrassment.
