E-Books

I have a Kindle, and while I wouldn't say I absolutely love it, I find it convenient. After all, it's much easier to read NetGalley books on a transportable screen than on my computer monitor. However, if I got to choose between an e-copy and a physical copy, the latter wins all the way.

As the trite expression goes, there's just nothing like the sensation of actually holding it in your hands. I like being able to actually flip the pages and feel the cover, not to mention looking at it and admiring the art whenever I want. The words are crisper, and it's just so much more aesthetically pleasing than a gray-ish screen with clumped paragraphs in poor formatting.

But I do know people who prefer reading off the screen, and I can acknowledge the advantages. You can make text bigger or smaller, have it read out loud to you, and newer versions of e-readers deliver text in a prettier way than the original Kindle, which I have.

But do I think print books will disappear? Nope. As high as e-book sales are, a demand for physical books will never completely go away, just like CDs haven't become completely outdated with the advent of music files.

So what do you think? Do you like e-books better or print? Do you think print books will eventually disappear?

I've owned a Kindle for two years now and I think my husband hoped (when he gifted it to me) that I would never buy another "paper" book again. I assure you it has been a disappointment for him because I still buy books and go to the library to get more books.

However, the Kindle is very convenient when I travel, when I'm waiting at the doctor's office, and when I download books from NetGalley and other sites. Also, you cannot beat the prizes of some of the books, I mean some of them are FREE. Who doesn't want a free book?

We're with you all the way. Like, 100%. Ebooks and ereaders are great, but so are physical printed books. We don't think it has to be a competition, but rather that they can be mutually beneficial to one another, and to readers and writers too!

I still love me the print books! I have a Kindle too, mostly for net galley and author requests, and I like it for all the reasons mentioned above. There really is something about holding a book in your hands though. I agree that there is room and purpose for both ebooks and print. :)

I love real books, but I love my kindle too! I just don't have room for all the books I want to read and the kindle is a lot lighter than a 600 page book. I also love using it to read documents that I would otherwise have to read on the computer.

I don't think print books will ever disappear, but I'm making an effort to buy e-books this year. After losing a number of books during a cross country move, I like the idea of having my library backed up.

I'm with you. I like my Kindle and I find it convenient (especially when traveling) but I still really like having a print book in my hand. I don't think print books are going anywhere anytime soon, but I see a downturn in their sales and production as eReaders become more common, but I really don't think they'll ever just totally disappear, at least not in my lifetime.

I love to read both ways...it really doesn't matter for me. I prefer to take my e-reader with me and not those heavy books :D

@fakesteph- I agree with you. I don't think print books will ever disappear as well, because many people prefer to have them in their hands. We'll see what happens next!
